History:
Douglas Ramsey was born in Salem Center, New York on June 20, 1983, the only child of Phillip and Sheila Ramsey. He was a typical all- American youth, and grew up a child of the late 80s/early 90s. He was interested in math and science, computers and video games, and was considered to be somewhat of a 'nerd' as he entered junior high school. Life was ordinary for young Doug, as he had no idea that he was a mutant. He was an intelligent youth, which added to the label of 'nerd' which had been placed upon him as he entered Salem Center High School as a freshman in the fall of 1997.
His mutant powers erupted rather quietly in the latter part of 1997, as he began to be able to 'see' things within his computer at home, and just 'knew' how a program would be working without really having to think about it. Also, his Spanish class at school became -much- easier when he found out that the textbook that he was reading was completely readable and understandable to him. Not knowing what was going on, but not really feeling anything because of his discoveries, he kept to himself. With his powers, combined with his own considerable intellect, high school rushed by, and he petitioned to take a number of tests for credit, specifically in the math, science, foreign language and computer courses. Testing straight through those, and a few other classes as well, Doug was able to graduate high school two years early, with a number of scholarships to Columbia University in New York City.
Doug had no idea who Charles Xavier was, other than a client of his father's, as his father was one of the main lawyers for the Xavier family. Doug had never met the man, and only heard about him once or twice.
Time passed as Doug moved to attend Columbia in the fall of 1998, his time split between his studies at school and his experimenting with his mutant powers.
He was even more alone here at Columbia than he was in Salem Center, and it was this, along with the exploration and development of his powers that led him to become first a hacker, taking the name of Cybermancer, and then into hanging out off and on with a darker crowd, partying on weekends, going to a rave now and again, and experimenting with smoking and drugs, including marijuana, XTC and LSD. It was during one of the raves, while doped on XTC and LSD, or candyflipping, that he lost his virginity, at the age of sixteen.
Time continued to pass, Doug's studying going along about as expected (almost entirely A's, with one or two Bs, allowing him to keep his scholarship), and his powers growing slowly with time. It was during the spring of 1999 that he began doing freelance work through the Internet, taking programming assignments here and there and hacking challenges for pay. He set up a bank account in Switzerland, and set up a few blinds to keep it from being tracked to him, as well as a bind loop within the Social Security Administration's computers, to keep them from showing that he'd been earning money. He moved out of the dorms, and into a loft near Columbia, and began to put together Grymoire. He worked for a variety of companies, none of which knew anything other than the name that he gave them, and increased his skills and notoriety as Cybermancer. He tended to stay away from many of the greedier computer crimes, and only hacked his way into systems, usually quietly, and set up back doors. Now and again he would hack a website or corporate mainframe, and then usually only to send a message. About this time he also began to take classes in martial arts, his powers aiding him in the learning of this as well.
Everything was going nicely at the time of the Symposium, where he first heard the words 'homo sapiens superior' and 'mutant', and saw Magneto's first appearance. He put two and two together, and got 'pi'. He determined that he himself was one of these mutants, and now had a name to put to what he had been calling his 'differences'. Outside of that though, little has changed in Doug's life, he still wants his degree, and his fun, and those are foremost in his mind.

of translation. He can translate any language, whether spoken or

can take a completely unknown alien language and make a significant
amount of headway with it in only a few minutes time. A moment or two
later, and he'll be able to speak and understand it as well. This
also extends to computer langauges and codes, and has allowed his
ability with computers to flourish, and no computer code, encryption,
or password protection is safe from him for very long.
