History:
Born to second generation Chinese American parents, Chyou was twice a disappointment, having the bad luck to be both female -and- an only child. Despite the fact that from the time when letter grades were given she received all A's in class, her parents still believed her to be unworthy. But that was not even enough. Her first triumph was at the age of seven when a sculpture she had made one first place in a school art show. Nothing to laugh at in grade school this feat did not improve her relationship with her parents. Her skill with sculpting was middling at best and through much practice she vowed to improve.
She first discovered skateboarding at the age of ten, increasing the dissension between her and her father to a fever pitch. Despite the fact that she continued to earn excellent grades and was in every respect a model child, what little respect he did have for her rapidly disappeared, and when her mother refused to prevent the beatings he began to give her, Chyou's feelings there turned cold as well. She never touched drugs, but by age 14 her father was convinced she hung with the dealers in high school and that her all-night practice sessions in the local skate parks were just a cover story for the raves she attended.
The rest of high school played out the same way, and by the time she graduated her mind was made up. Her 18th birthday party was a rather odd one: A few hugs, a few goodbyes to close friends, some hurried packing, and a ticket for a greyhound bus headed east. As quickly as she shed her home city she shed the name her parents had given her, grabbing hold of that very real vestige of freedom. The name Leisa was tacked onto her other three names and became what everyone knew her as. In the process of working her way across country Leisa Chyou An Wai learned the bartending trade, and became good at it quickly. When she got the chance she skated in Pro Am contests. The ones she won helped grease the wheels of her ride to New York. As she went east she won more and more contests. The opportunity to go Professional was offered someplace near Chicago. Leisa didn't want to tour she wanted to go to college and so she turned down the sponsors and headed to New York, buying a plane ticket with her winnings.
When she reached New York she acquired a job post haste and scoped out the skate parks. Her apartment offered close access to both options and she was on her way. A special on the Learning Channel lead to the career choice she made soon after moving to New York. Forensic Sculpting, though a rare field intensely interested Leisa. What better way to spend a life then finding the lost children and loved ones of the masses. Her first attempt at it, working on knowledge gleaned from books, was a pathetic attempt on a replica she purchased at a Goth shop. Her skill has not improved that much as most of the technical aspects of the job are alien to her. Currently she's in the process of selecting a college and paying her way through classes in Forensic Sculpting.
