History:
Phoebe was born in Savannah, GA to Edward and Annabelle Montgomery, a wealthy and highly respected young couple with wonderful jobs and an ideal life together. Edward was fresh young lawyer in the manor of his father before him, taking over as counselor for some of the Nation's top business powers, and often away on business. Pheobe's mother was an accomplished artist, a professor at SCAD with her own gallery in Savannah's historical district. The child born to them was icing on the cake and a star in their lives; however, with both parents having such important jobs, it was sometimes hard for them to devote as much time to their daughter as they would have liked. After reaching a suitable age Pheobe was often left alone with a nanny or one of the servants. It was at this time that her terror of the dark first came about.
At the age of four Pheobe was entered into pre-school and immediately showed that she did quite well in a school environment. She was also entered into a prestigious school of ballet at this time, and her mother began to teach her about art. Phoebe took to all three new things in her life like a fish to water. Both academic and dancing school were delightful ways to spend her time if she couldn't be with her parents, and the art lessons with her mother were the absolute most treasured part of her life. At the age of five she was moved to a Catholic grade school and her troubles with other children began.
Admitedly Pheobe was a plain, awkward child, small for her age and not very well liked by her peers. They resented her for her success and dedication to her school work, and it may be said that at the beginning she was also a bit of a snob. She was content to ignore her peers and bury herself in her school work, dancing lessons, and those glorious times doing art with her mother. At the age of 8 her mother decided that she should also have music lessons. The average day for the child consisted of School first, two hours at ballet, two hours of music lessons, and occasionally art lessons with her mother. Any other time was left for her to do with as she would, and most often she would use her free time drawing or coloring. At the same time, the fear of the dark that her parents thought she would grow out of was becomming more and more of a problem. She was sometimes taken to a therapist, though without much success.
Pheobe's powers were first revealed to her in an inccident when she was eleven years old. While attending an "Art Camp" in Atlanta she was locked in a storage building by a group of girls who had learned of her phobia. Of course Pheobe panicked after being locked in the small, windowless building. She screamed and begged but no one could hear her, the girls had become bored after a time and left to attend an activity. they figured that someone else would hear the girl and come to let her out. For a while she cried and prayed to God, and then something happened... she became angry. As a result of her anger and distress her body released a burst of light so powerful and sudden that it blew open the door. She ran to a counselor then and asked to be sent home.
After that her power usually manifest itself when the child was nervous, scared, or lonely, taking the form of sudden sparkles in the air or tiny dancing balls of light. They would quickly blink out when other people came around, and those people who did see them firmly convinced themselves that they had not. It wasn't long before the small girl would spend a great deal of her free time alone, first trying to call up this power at will, and later experimenting with it. She knew that this was a special gift and not one that she could show to other people. At the same time she was progressing in school, dancing, art, and music as well as she had always.
Something changed after that first burst of light. Pheobe discovered that she didn't care about what other people thought of her, and at the same time she thought it might be nice to have real friends. She became more confident and more social, and almost as if it were a reflection of this, her looks began to change as well. Her looks became more girlish, and all of her time spent dancing really showed itself in her shapely figure. By the time she reached High School she had become a popular and well sought after girl, both loved and respected by her teachers as well as her peers. Those days of loneliness and torment seemed like a bad dream, and most times she forgot that things had ever been different.
Naturally, after breezing through High School, Pheobe decided to attend college. She was accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design quite enthusiastically, having already earned a good reputation for herself in high school. She had discontinued her music and dance lessons while in her Sophomore year of high school, keeping up practice on her own and choosing to persue a career in art just as her mother had. By taking summer courses, she was able to complete her major in only three years rather than four, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Art at the age of 19.
Phoebe was accepted by Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and her mother had pulled a few strings in order to get her a job working as and assistant conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She intended to persue a career in Art Restoration and earn a Master's Degree in Art History, Criticism, and Conservation. Pheobe also had another agenda, going to what seems to be the center of all this mutant phenomena might give her a chance to learn a little bit about herself.
Pheobe has since made her way to New York city and settled in. She is on her first year of graduate studies at the Pratt Institute, earning her intended degree, and is greatly enjoying her work at the Met. She currently has a nice appartment overlooking Central Park, but must drive 20 minutes to school each day.
