History:

Scott is the eldest son of Air Force Major Christopher Summers, former ace of the Vietnam war and elite test pilot, and his wife, Katherine Ann. Christopher's parents, Philip and Deborah Summers, were the owners of a small Alaskan private airline, and Christopher hometown was Anchorage. Scott was born in Anchorage too, in the autumn of 1973, but he didn't stay there for long, as the family had to move constantly because of his father's job.

Scott grew up in military air bases, surrounded by soldiers and airplanes, and not surprisingly he developed an early fascination by the flying machines. His youngest brother, Alexander, was born three years later. But life in military air bases was not easy for young children. Scott always lost his friends as soon as he made them because his father had to keep moving from one base to another, and he grew introverted and lonely. His dad was always his best friend, but when Scott was 9, Katherine and Christopher decided that it would be better for the children if the left the military life and to raise them as a normal family should. The planned to move to Anchorage, where Christopher would take a job as a pilot in the family business and Scott and Alex would be able to go to a normal school and have lasting friends.

It was a good idea, unfortunately they never arrived there. The private airplane Christopher piloted crashed with something in mid-flight and Katherine tied their children to a single parachute and pushed them out of the plane. Scott was severely injured by the fall, because the parachute caught fire when the plane exploded, he broke both arms and legs and the skull and suffered some brain damage. He was rendered partially amnesiac by the head injury and even today he can't remember most details of his infancy.

Scott was in coma and he stayed comatose for a year. When he awakened at last he could not remember anything, not even his name. His brother, Alex, had been sent to an orphanage and almost immediately adopted, Scott would never see him again.

It took over two years for Scott to leave the hospitals. Rehabilitation was very slow because of the brain damage, and Scott suffered from terrible headaches that left him unable to move for hours due to the pain. Being weak, thin and sick, Scott was a natural target for the orphanage bullies. Once they found out about the brain damage, it was even worse, he was taunted, mocked and beaten almost constantly. He had lost three years of education and barely remembered what he had learned before so he had a hard time in the studies too. All in all it was a hell of childhood. He was never adopted because of his poor health and medical record.

However Scott never gave up. Following his physician advice he exercise himself until he recovered his strength and the full use of his limbs. He studied very hard and caught up with the students of his age. When he was 14 he began growing very quickly, becoming a tall, thin, scarecrow of a kid, which gained him the nickname of "Slim". By then he had recovered much of his memory too. At 14 Scott had some friends, was respected by his teachers and was a good enough basketball player so the bullies left him alone to pick on younger 'nerds'.

But though some things looked better others where getting worse. Scott's headaches were more and more frequent and more painful. He began to see in shades of red when the headaches hit him. Soon he realized his eyes were turning red too. When he was 15 he fired his first optic blast. His eyes were more than just red, they were out of control. As his headaches grew, Scott walked out of the town to discharge the energy his eyes generated, fist he had to go only once every week, but soon he was forced to go daily, and then several times every day. He learned a bit about his beams as he fired them against the ground, like he could make them more powerful by "pushing" himself, but that doing so left him tired, he also noticed his headaches were gone, never to return.

But soon his strange behavior began to be noticed by his teachers and the orphanage staff. And then he was seen discharging his beams, Scott knew that his secret was about to be discovered and decided to leave.

He ran to the orphanage, took his meager savings (600$ he had from running errands and doing odd jobs) and scarce belongings and went straight to the nearest bus station, he closed his eyes before boarding the bus, feigning blindness, the other passengers were very kind. He arrived to Denver the same night, asked directions for a motel and stayed there a couple of days, trying to get used to the fact he was going to have to keep his eyes closed for the rest of his life, for all practical purposes he was blind.

He was also 15. He had very little money, barely enough for a month or two. He needed work, but who would give a work to a blind kid? He considered begging, but he suspected the police would detain him because he was a minor, and his secret would be discovered quickly. After a week of intense thinking he faintly remembered a shred of his childhood: his father had been born in Anchorage. Desperate, he clung to the faint hope he had some family in Anchorage able and willing to help him even after so many years. He went to the bus station and brought a ticket north.

Meanwhile his display of power had attracted the attention of one of Magneto's scouts. Magneto was trying to find other mutants and had (and has) private detectives investigating unusual events all around the world. One of them heard the story of a boy causing explosions or something like that and decided to investigate a bit. He quickly discovered the damage Scott had caused with his beams, deduced he had not been using explosives of any kind, and decided to inform his employer. Magneto's agents tracked Scott to Denver, but arrived too late, however they found out the motel he had been staying and were able to find out he had asked about ways to reach Alaska. Magneto ordered a wider investigation and by the time Scott made it to Anchorage Magneto was waiting for him at the bus station.

Scott met a kind old man with European accent in the station. He told Scott his name was Eric, he helped him to find the Summers and called a taxi for Scott, even offering to pay the transport when he admitted he had no money left. Of course Magneto followed him to his grandparents home, perhaps hoping for the old couple would reject him. But Philip and Deborah recognized the young boy as ‘the very image of his father at his age’ and invited him in. Scott was almost overwhelmed with relief and blurted his entire story to his grandparents that very night. Magneto left for a hotel, he could wait.

After a good night of sleep and several good foods (Scott had barely been able to eat in his way north because his money was scarce) Philip and Scott went to the fields behind the Summers home to see what Scott could do. After weeks without using his powers Scott's blasts were stronger than ever, he cut a sway of destruction 100 feet wide, falling three dozen adult trees in less than a second, his eyes continued blasting for five full minutes without stopping, digging a huge hole in the ground. And even after all that destruction they were still glowing brightly.

Philip was amazed, and more than a bit scared too, though he tried to hide it from Scott. Magneto, watching the experiment with binoculars and at a safe distance, was also amazed, but also smiling. Scott was also scared, his blasts were stronger than ever, even now he could fell the charge building up again, and everything was red, he would have liked to cry, but it seemed he was not able anymore, sighing he closed his eyes. Obviously they were not going to stay discharged for more than a few minutes.

Philip and Deborah were worried and scared about Scott's condition, he was their grandson, but he was also able to kill them by accident, or destroy their home in an instant by mistake. Scott was not happier, he was not stupid and understood their dilemma perfectly. It was the right moment for Magneto to drop by, and he did.

Magneto asked the Summers to met with him together and made a small demonstration of his power, then gave them the abbreviated version of his philosophy: mutants were the next step of evolution and needed to stay together because they were dangerous for humans and the other way around. He also told the Summers that he suspected Scott was in danger because there were hostile organizations hunting down mutants, he hinted the US government was somehow involved. Finally he offered to take care of Scott as he had done with other mutants before, to teach him to control his powers and to defend himself, of course he didn't mention anything about his Brotherhood or a mutant armies. Then he left, leaving the phone number of the hotel where he was going to stay a few days.

The Summers debated what to do for a couple days, finally, more because of Scott's initiative than anything else, they decided to accept Magneto's offer. The following day Scott and Magneto were flying to Switzerland in Magneto's private jet.

Magneto did what he could to fulfill his promise, but it took years to find some crystalline elements able to reflect the optic blasts, and even more to build visors and glasses for Scott. Meanwhile Scott lived as a blind man would. By this time he was able to see Magneto and Scott had a relationship very similar to those of a father and a son.

Scott began helping Magneto in his work while he was taking engineering courses at the University of Geneva, thought he later finished his career at the Vienna University of Technology. Meanwhile he became a capable pilot and Magneto's right hand. Years passed. Both of his grandparents died the same year, and he inherited their business. He also watched over his brother from afar, but left him alone since everything seemed to go so well for him. No need to get him involved in dangerous mutant business. Black Prom was observed with preoccupation by the Brotherhood members, revelation was at hand. Plans where made. For the first time in his life Scott openly disagreed with Magneto's plans. He believed that the displays of power Magneto was going to make would make humankind fear and mistrust mutants and proposed a less dramatic but more diplomatic approach, but Magneto rejected his plans stating that mutantkind had to deal with humans from a position of force. Magneto's appearance at the symposium and the U.N. are well documented. Afterwards Magneto sent Scott and a few other operatives to New York to investigate the rumors of mutant groups operating in the city and the reports of mutant related crimes.
