History: (The abbreviated version)
Somewhere in Earth's ancient past, the Great Race of Yith, a species of time-travelling body-swapping observers, experimented upon a strain of ancient wasp-like insects, forging them into a non- sentient group mentality.
Adam Malloy was born in 1973, raised in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. When he was six, his mother died due to complications with a later pregnancy. His father later remarried Rebecca Fieldson, who was a mutant telepath. Adam himself was not a mutant.
Adam attended the University of Virginia, studying biochemistry, and eventually electing to pursue a Master's degree. When he was twenty-two, he was on a backpacking trip, during which he was robbed and left for dead.
His stepmother sensed his impending death and instinctively attempted to preserve his psyche with her own telepathic abilities. This resulted in his quickly-fragmenting psyche being overlaid upon the descendents of the wasps upon which the Great Race had experimented). The strain of saving her stepson destroyed her sanity.
Adam Malloy was dead. But in dying, he had been transformed into a new form of life...a sentient group mentality...a Swarm of wasps.
Height: 6'3" (Human Form); N/A (Insect Form)
Weight: 120 lbs. (Human Form); N/A (Insect Form)
Eyes: Black and gold, Compound (All forms)
Hair: Grey-blonde (Human Form); Black and yellow (Insect Form)
Unusual physical characteristics: In his human shape, his eyes
are compound and insectoid. (He usually hides these with dark glasses).
His presence is often accompanied by a faint decentralized buzzing sound.
In his insect shape, of course, he appears as a perfectly normal group
of a million zillion insects ;)
Strength level: Swarm, in his human shape, possesses the normal
human strength of a man of his apparent age, height, and build who wouldn't
know moderate exercise if it bit him on the nose. His wasps possess the
normal strength which wasps might be expected to possess (i.e., not much).
Known superhuman powers: The Swarm is a groupmind, a single
sentience spread out across the minds of hundreds of thousands of
wasp-like insects. He possesses limited shapeshifting abilities,
enough to take the form of a human being. The Swarm is
somewhat telepathic, though generally incompatible with human
thought processes. In either its human or insect forms, the Swarm
possesses a variety of enhanced and altered sensory capabilities.
The Swarm can, of course, fly, sting, and do the other sorts of
things that one might expect of wasps.
Other abilities: Adam Malloy was an accomplished outdoorsman
and a graduate biochemistry student. The Swarm is a natural
tactician, able to evaluate and entertain many different possibilities
simultaneously.
Weapons and paraphernalia: None
Other notes: The Swarm is immune to Raid and similar pesticides.
