Welcome to X-Men: End Times (XET), where the stars are edging ever closer to awful alignment,
where humanity has steadily accelerated the process of its own
destruction, and where a select few continue to sacrifice themselves to
keep tomorrow and the End Times from becoming today. The looming
conflict between humanity and its evolutionary successors, the wild
talents collectively referred to as 'mutants', may well serve as the final flash point that sends all
tumbling into the abyss.
The universe of XET is an amalgam of two distinct
but not uncomplimentary themes the Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft integrated
with characters and themes from Marvel's X-Men series of comic books.
We've further enriched and expanded upon the theme by integrating Pagan
Publishing's excellent Delta Green sourcebooks for Call of Cthulhu.
In traditional Marvel lore, the Celestials
descended from space to impart upon humanity an interesting gift: the
potential to mutate and manifest superhuman abilities when exposed to
radiation. This seed germinated into such offspring as the X-Men, the
Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and countless others.
Not all superhumans could be traced back to the Celestials; some are
the product of raw human genius (madness?) and determination. Captain
America, Iron Man, Nick Fury, and The Punisher are but a few examples.
In the universe of XET, the Celestials may or may
not have ever existed. One thing is certain: if such beings ever
existed, they were consumed long before reaching our humble planet. The
Old Ones have existed on Earth for millennia, even aeons in some cases.
They, along with their minions and servitors, have occasionally
intermingled, influence, and bred with what would one day rise up as
the species that currently dominates the planet -- mankind.
The introduction of Mythos contamination into the
human gene pool has begun to express itself more forcefully as we
approach the time when the Great Old Ones will arise from their aged
slumber. While typically raised within human society, mutants are not
fully human. They carry upon their genetic structure the mark of those
from Beyond.
Some mutants may embrace the most promising and
benevolent of mankind's ideals, but others find themselves drawn
towards causing pain and violence, hurting for the sheer pleasure of
it.
Drawn towards becoming one in spirit with the Old
Ones.
Drawn towards bringing forward the day when
Ragnarok begins.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
XET generally focuses on mutants and their
interactions with the rest of humanity. Mythos elements are mostly in
the background, lying in wait, always present but rarely seen.
Generally, the world of XET appeared almost exactly like our own to
most eyes (no obvious mutants or demon possession) until the Black Prom. After that, mutants began to
appear in public and the world began to realize some of what was known
in secret for years. Some... but not everything.
Mutant characters are the focus of the MUX, though
others are certainly allowed, if they fit in with the general feel of
the MUX. If you fear your character idea might not fit in with the
theme, send a short query mail to the
appstaff before
fully applying.
